Slingshot of God
I've thought many times of the story of David and Goliath. This message has been preached throughout generations endeavoring to encourage believers to pursue the boldness that David showed.
We've heard of Saul's armour, how that is this world's wisdom, or even that it was another man's protection, not our own.
We've heard of the five stones, four of them for Goliath's four brothers. Or that the five represented the five-fold ministry. Or, the fact that five is the number for "Grace".
But, I want to challenge your thinking for a moment! I want to build another picture in your mind's eye, something to give you more thought about the plan of God that is for the whole body of Christ...
So Reader, if you can rise to the challenge, then press on and read another thought line......
Isa 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. (KJV)
This scripture is refering to Jesus. That much we are certain.
Suppose for a moment, that, because He is the precious stone of God, that the stone that David used, was speaking of Jesus Himself. The ONE who would defeat Satan. Take him down. The enemy of Israel brought down with a single stone.
Now, for a moment, place yourself in Christ Jesus, that Stone. God, represented by David, takes this stone, (Christ Jesus, with you hidden in His bosom), places the stone in His slingshot, starts the swing,... Suddenly, you feel your life being tossed and turned all about. It shouldn't be like this. It should be smoothe. Carefree. Things begin to spiral faster, and faster. You feel cramped and enclosed. You wish for freedom. You'd like to be used of God.
Suddenly, the sling is released. OH, what a release. Free at last. Not a care. Just floating through life. WOW! You never knew it could be this free! You look out in front to see where life is going. To your horror, all you can see is this big GIANT in your path. What's he doing there. This isn't the way it should be. What does THAT BIG UGLY THING have to do with your life anyway. You try to turn directions but to no avail. You can't even slow down. You begin to panic. You try a different gear (prayer). No avail. Suddenly, the inevitable is about to happen. Nothing left to do but SCREAM!
You let out a roar of dispair, and hopelessness. You are unable to stop the momentum. SLAM! A stunning impact! You have just ran into the biggest enemy of your life. A sickening feeling goes through the air. Suddenly, death is all around you. This is the end, you think. You begin to fall. What happened to God. What happened to the wonderful life you had. This isn't fair. It shouldn't end this way. The feeling of falling is all around you.
But wait..... something is different... You've no pain. You've got a sense of victory going through your members. You become aware of a strong presence of the Spirit of Life! His mind goes through your mind imparting understanding to your senses. God is in CONTROL! The battle has just ended. The Victory is His. The SPOIL is yours to take. The enemy is down.
You were hidding in the ROCK that God took, put in His sling, and flung at an enemy to take him down. To end his torment to multitudes. To set his captives free.
A soft gentle breeze begins to blow across your face. It seems filled with Love. A gentle hand picks you up and brushes the dust off. You hear a voice that you seemed to know forever, "Ah, my precious stone, tried and true, what a marvelous thing you have done today. Many will be free because you let me put you in my sling. I am proud of you. I will display you to many. They will know that you are MINE!....
Many will hear of the story and know, you cannot fight the ROCK and win.
